Before starting, make sure the engine and transmission are at operating temperature.
1. Park the vehicle on level ground and apply the parking brake.
2. Open the hood and locate the transmission oil dipstick, which is usually marked with a bright orange handle.
3. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean with a clean rag or lint-free cloth.
4. Re-insert the dipstick all the way until it seats properly.
5. Pull the dipstick out again and check the level of the transmission fluid on the dipstick.
The fluid level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
6. If the fluid level is low, add the appropriate type of transmission fluid through the dipstick tube until the level reaches the "FULL" mark.
7. Reinsert the dipstick and ensure it is seated properly.
8. Close the hood and start the engine, letting it run for a few minutes to circulate the new fluid.
9. Recheck the transmission fluid level after driving the vehicle for a short distance to ensure it is still at the proper level.
10. Make sure to use the recommended type of transmission oil and follow the transmission fluid change intervals outlined in your vehicle's owner's manual.
