There are several reasons why a fuel injector is failing. They can fail mechanically or electronically. Bad or defective selenoids are often the most common causes of electronic failure. Alternatively, a mechanical failure can be attributed to debris, moisture, or any other foreign particles getting into the fuel injector.
Another common reason that your Cat C15 ACERT fuel injectors fail is due to extended use. Improper servicing and delayed inspection cause expansion which will no longer be within the manufacturer’s recommended spec.
If you notice any of the symptoms listed above, go over the list noted above. It can help you determine if your injectors are to blame. These small, yet simple tests confirm if you need to get the fuel injectors replaced or not.
Before going any further, we need to understand what trim codes are. Injectors need to be told exactly when and for how long fuel needs to be injected in the combustion chamber. Trim codes cannot be affected by wear and tear like physical components. Therefore, no matter how many miles or hours your engine has, the trim codes will never change.
The Cat C15 ACERT engine uses trim codes to provide equal and constant fuel from the injectors. Want to know more about trim codes. Read this Highway & Heavy Parts post explaining fuel injector trim codes.
DFI provides all the necessary trim codes required with every Cat C15 ACERT fuel injector sold. It comes on a disc that can be directly uploaded to the ECM.
