1. Gather tools and materials.
You will need the following tools and materials to perform this repair:
- Socket set
- Wrench set

- Pliers
- Pry bar
- Gasket scraper
- RTV sealant
- New head gasket
- New head bolts
2. Prepare the vehicle.
- Park your vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
- Allow the engine to cool down completely.
- Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical shock.
- Remove the engine air filter housing.
- Remove the upper radiator hose.
- Remove the serpentine belt.
- Remove the spark plugs.
3. Remove the cylinder head.
- Use a pry bar to remove the valve cover.
- Use a wrench to remove the head bolts.
- Carefully lift the cylinder head off of the engine block.
4. Clean the cylinder head and block.
- Use a gasket scraper to remove the old head gasket from the cylinder head and block.
- Clean the cylinder head and block until they are free of dirt, debris, and old gasket material.
5. Install the new head gasket.
- Apply a thin coat of RTV sealant to the cylinder head and block.
- Place the new head gasket in place.
- Make sure that the head gasket is properly aligned.
6. Reinstall the cylinder head.

- Install the head bolts and tighten them to the specified torque.
- Reconnect the upper radiator hose.

7. Refill the coolant system.
