How to change the fuel filter on a ford ranger 1994?

Tools and materials needed:

- New fuel filter

- Screwdriver

- Wrench

- Pliers

- Replacement filter (Ford #E6TZ-9155-B)

- Two wrenches (one open-end and one box-end)

- Drain pan

- Rags

- Safety goggles

Instructions:

Step 1: Locate the fuel filter

The fuel filter is located on the driver's side of the vehicle, just below the rear of the fuel injection system.

Step 2: Prepare the vehicle

To get started, you will need to turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. You will also want to put on your safety goggles. Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.

Step 3: Relieve fuel system pressure

There is fuel system pressure retained even after you have turned the ignition off. To ensure that no fuel spills, you will need to relieve the fuel pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and let it run until it stalls. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

Step 4: Remove the fuel lines

Use a wrench to loosen and remove the fuel line clamps at both ends of the filter housing. Be prepared for a small amount of fuel to spill out when the lines are disconnected. The fuel lines should just slide right off of the filter housing. Make sure to allow any remaining fuel in the lines to drain back into the tank.

Step 5: Remove the old filter housing

To remove the old filter, you will need to use your filter wrench to loosen the housing by turning it clockwise. Once loosened, it should be easily removed by hand. Remove any remaining gaskets from the engine block if still attached.

Step 6: Replace the old filter

Slide the new filter into place and ensure the o-rings from the old filter transfer over to the new one. Screw on the new filter by turning it counter-clockwise until it is snug. Do not overtighten.

Step 7: Place new filter housing into position and reinstall the fuel lines.

Place the new fuel filter into the position of the old filter. Slide the new fuel lines onto the filter housing and reconnect them by using the fuel line clamps. Tighten them using the wrench.

Step 8: Reset fuel pressure

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Tap the ignition key to "On" for 2 seconds (DO NOT START), and release the key. Wait 10 seconds. Repeat the previous steps two more times. You should now hear the fuel pump cycle (humming or buzzing noise) twice. Turn the ignition switch to the "Off" position. reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the vehicle. Allow the engine to run until it stalls. Restart the vehicle. The fuel system pressure has now been reset.
