Who invented the engine?

There is no singular inventor of the engine, as it is a product of many contributions and developments over time. The concept of an engine can be traced back to the ancient Greeks who created steam-powered devices called aeolipiles. During the 17th century, significant advancements were made by inventors such as Thomas Savery, Thomas Newcomen, and James Watt, who developed and refined the steam engine. However, it was Nikolaus Otto and Gottlieb Daimler who are widely credited with inventing the first internal combustion engine in the 1870s, which would become the foundation for modern gasoline-powered engines.
