1. Turn off the engine and ensure that the car is parked and safe to work on.
2. Locate the cigarette lighter. It is usually located on the center console of the car.
3. Gently pry around the edges of the cigarette lighter with a flat-head screwdriver or other small tool until it pops out of its housing.
4. Once the cigarette lighter is free, disconnect the electrical connector at the back of it.
5. Remove the cigarette lighter from the car.
6. If you are installing a new cigarette lighter, connect the electrical connector to the new one and insert it into the housing until it clicks into place.
