- New Cigarette Lighter Assembly
- Flat-head screwdriver or equivalent tool
- Wire stripper/crimper
- 15-Amp Fuse
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Disconnect Battery:
- Ensure safety by disconnecting the negative (black) terminal of your car battery to avoid any electrical mishaps during the process.
2. Locate Cigarette Lighter Assembly:
- The cigarette lighter assembly on a 94 Honda Accord EX is typically located in the dashboard, often near the center console.
3. Remove Console Trim:
- Using the flat-head screwdriver or similar tool, carefully pry loose and remove the trim/bezel surrounding the cigarette lighter assembly. Be cautious not to damage any nearby plastic components.
4. Disconnect Electrical Connectors:
- Inside the assembly, you'll see a couple of electrical connectors. Gently press the tabs on the connectors and pull them out from the lighter.
5. Remove Mounting Nut:
- Locate and loosen the mounting nut on the cigarette lighter assembly using an appropriate-sized wrench.
6. Pull Out Old Assembly:
- Once the nut is removed, you can pull the entire cigarette lighter assembly out from its place in the dashboard.
7. Disconnect Fuse Wire:
- You may find a wire attached to the rear of the old cigarette lighter assembly. Carefully detach it by loosening the wire terminal nut.
8. Prepare New Assembly:
- Take your new cigarette lighter assembly and connect the wire (if available) you removed from the previous unit. Use the wire stripper/crimper to ensure a secure connection.
9. Check Fuse:
- Check the 15-Amp fuse connected to the cigarette lighter for any damage or breakage. If needed, replace it with a new 15-Amp fuse.
10. Mount New Assembly:
- Insert the new cigarette lighter assembly into its designated spot on the dashboard. Ensure the mounting bracket aligns correctly.
11. Replace Mounting Nut:
- Secure the new assembly by tightening the mounting nut you loosened earlier.
12. Reconnect Electrical Connectors:
- Reconnect the electrical connectors you disconnected in step 4, making sure they are firmly secured.
13. Replace Trim:
- Carefully put back the trim/bezel you removed earlier, ensuring it snaps in securely.
14. Reconnect the Battery:
- Once everything is assembled and secure, reconnect the battery's negative terminal.
15. Test:
- Start your Accord and plug something like a phone charger or a 12-volt accessory into the new lighter to make sure it is functioning correctly.
Note:
If the new cigarette lighter doesn't work, double-check all connections, especially the fuse. If the issue persists, consult an experienced mechanic or auto electrician.
