What to do if diesel engine freezes?

If a diesel engine freezes:

1. Allow the engine to idle to let warm water circulate freely. If the issue isn't found, check for additional issues to determine what needs more time on your car.

2. Check radiator for ice buildup in hoses and other cooling lines. If that occurs try warming those up gently - they can crack with too much heat at once, potentially spilling coolant which has its risks as water will evaporate out when engine heats again leaving only glycol behind that corrodes metal.

3. Run car to check if cooling has resumed normally; otherwise it requires immediate repair.
