• A spark plug wrench
• A gap gauge
• A new spark plug (NGK BR8EG is the one typically used)
Procedure:
1. Warm up the engine by letting it run for a few minutes. This will help to loosen any carbon deposits that may have formed around the spark plug.
2. Once the engine is warm, turn it off and allow it to cool down completely.
3. Locate the spark plug. On a KTM 2-stroke, the spark plug is typically located on the right side of the cylinder head, near the top.
4. Use the spark plug wrench to loosen the spark plug. Be careful not to drop the spark plug into the engine.
5. Once the spark plug is loose, remove it by hand.
6. Inspect the spark plug. The electrode should be clean and free of any damage. If the electrode is dirty, you can clean it with a wire brush.
7. Check the spark plug gap. The gap should be between 0.020" and 0.024". You can use a gap gauge to check the gap.
8. If the gap is too wide or too narrow, you will need to adjust it. To adjust the gap, use a pair of pliers to bend the electrode.
9. Screw the new spark plug into the cylinder head by hand. Do not use a spark plug wrench to tighten the spark plug. Overtightening the spark plug can damage the threads in the cylinder head.
10. Once the spark plug is snug, connect the spark plug wire.
11. Start the engine and check for any leaks. If you see any leaks, turn the engine off and retighten the spark plug.
