Here are the steps to replace the fuel pump on a 1990 Mazda Miata without removing the gas tank:
1. Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Engage the parking brake.
3. Open the trunk and remove the spare tire.
4. Remove the four bolts that hold the fuel tank access panel in place.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector for the fuel pump.
6. Remove the fuel line connector using a 17mm wrench.
7. Remove the fuel pump by unscrewing the lock ring.
8. Remove the old fuel pump and install the new fuel pump.
9. Reinstall the lock ring and tighten it until it is snug.
10. Reconnect the fuel line connector and the electrical connector for the fuel pump.
11. Reinstall the fuel tank access panel and the four bolts that hold it in place.
12. Replace the spare tire and close the trunk.
13. Turn on the ignition and check for leaks.
