Tools Needed:
- Socket Set
- Wrench Set
- Pliers
- Jack and Jack Stands
Parts Needed:
- Alternator drive belt
- Water pump drive belt
Instructions:
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down.
2. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands.
3. Locate the drive belts at the front of the engine. The alternator belt is located on the left side, while the water pump belt is on the right side.
4. Use a wrench to loosen the tensioner pulley bolt for the alternator belt. The tensioner pulley is located at the top of the engine, just below the alternator.
5. Once the tensioner pulley bolt is loose, pry the tensioner pulley down with a pry bar to release tension on the belt.
6. Remove the old alternator drive belt from the pulleys.
7. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the water pump drive belt.
8. Install the new alternator drive belt by routing it around the pulleys. Make sure that the belt is seated correctly in the grooves of the pulleys.
9. Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt to secure the alternator drive belt.
10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for the water pump drive belt.
11. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
12. Start the engine and check that the drive belts are properly aligned and not making any noise.
Tips:
* If the drive belts are old and cracked, it is recommended to replace them both at the same time to avoid premature failure and potential engine damage.
* Be careful not to overtighten the tensioner pulley bolts, as this can damage the tensioner pulley or the engine.
