When replacing a valve cover do you also need to remove the head gasket and replace it too?

It is not necessary to remove the head gasket when replacing a valve cover. The valve cover gasket is a separate gasket that fits between the valve cover and the cylinder head. Replacing the valve cover gasket does not require removing the head gasket.
