1. The timing marks on the Pontiac Sunbird 2.0 engine are located on the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft pulley.
2. The crankshaft pulley has a notch in the rim, and the camshaft pulley has a "+" mark.
3. When the timing marks are aligned, the engine is at Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke.
Set the timing belt.
1. Loosen the timing belt tensioner pulley bolt.
2. Rotate the crankshaft pulley until the timing marks are aligned.
3. Tighten the timing belt tensioner pulley bolt.
Check the timing.
1. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
2. Use a timing light to check the timing. The timing should be set to 10 degrees Before Top Dead Center (BTDC).
3. If the timing is not correct, adjust the timing belt tensioner pulley bolt until the timing is correct.
