Does a 1990 dodge 2500 12 valve cumins have timing chain or gears and how do you replace it?

Timing chain:

* 3/8-inch drive ratchet

* 1/4-inch drive ratchet

* 10 mm socket

* 13 mm socket

* 15 mm socket

* 22 mm socket

* 30 mm socket

* 3/8-inch extension

* 10 mm Allen wrench

* 13 mm Allen wrench

* 6-inch extension bar

* 10-inch extension bar

* Ball peen hammer

* Flat-blade screwdriver

* Phillips-head screwdriver

* Pliers

* Snap ring pliers

* Torque wrench

* Timing chain set

_Instructions:_

1. Park the truck in a level area and turn off the engine.

2. Open the hood and remove the engine cover.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

4. Remove the air filter housing.

5. Remove the radiator hoses.

6. Remove the water pump.

7. Remove the timing chain cover.

8. Remove the old timing chain.

9. Install the new timing chain.

10. Reinstall the timing chain cover.

11. Reinstall the water pump.

12. Reinstall the radiator hoses.

13. Reinstall the air filter housing.

14. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

15. Start the engine and check for leaks.

1. Determine if your engine has timing gears or a timing chain by looking at the front of the engine. If there is a large, oval cover held on by four bolts, the engine has a timing chain. If there are two small, round covers on the front of the engine, the engine has timing gears.

2. Park the truck in a level area and turn off the engine.

3. Open the hood and remove the engine cover.

4. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

5. Remove the timing gear covers.

6. Remove the old timing gears.

7. Install the new timing gears.

8. Reinstall the timing gear covers.

9. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

10. Start the engine and check for leaks.
