- New power steering fluid (check your owner's manual for the recommended type and quantity)
- A funnel
- A turkey baster or fluid extractor
- A wrench
- A pan to catch the old fluid
Instructions:
1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your car.
3. Locate the power steering fluid reservoir. It is usually a plastic container with a black cap.
4. Remove the cap from the reservoir.
5. Use the turkey baster or fluid extractor to remove the old fluid from the reservoir.
6. Once the reservoir is empty, put the cap back on.
7. Locate the power steering fluid return line. It is usually a black hose that runs from the steering rack to the reservoir.
8. Disconnect the return line from the reservoir by using a wrench.
9. Put a drip pan under the line.
10. Turn the ignition key to the "on" position. This will activate the power steering pump.
11. Allow the old fluid to drain from the return line into the drip pan.
12. Once the old fluid has stopped dripping, turn off the ignition key.
13. Reconnect the return line to the reservoir.
14. Add new power steering fluid to the reservoir.
15. Turn on the ignition key and let the engine run for a few minutes.
16. Turn off the engine and check the power steering fluid level. Add more fluid if necessary.
Tips:
- It is important to use the correct type of power steering fluid for your car. Check your owner's manual for the recommended type.
- If you have difficulty removing the old fluid from the reservoir, you can use a compressed air gun to blow it out.
- Be careful not to spill any power steering fluid on the paint of your car. It can damage the paint.
