When the power steering fluid runs out what does that mean?

Loss of power steering assistance: With no fluid to transmit hydraulic pressure to the steering gear, the power steering system won't be able to amplify your steering inputs. This can make it difficult to turn the steering wheel, especially at low speeds or when the vehicle is stationary.

Noisier steering: Without fluid to cushion and lubricate the steering components, the steering system may become noisy and develop a grinding or whining sound.

Leaking fluid: If the power steering fluid runs out, it's likely due to a leak in the system. This could be caused by a damaged hose, cracked reservoir, or worn seals.

Pump damage: Running the power steering pump without fluid can cause it to overheat and fail. This can be an expensive repair.

If you notice any of these symptoms, it's important to stop driving and have your vehicle towed to a qualified mechanic. Adding more power steering fluid may not be enough to fix the problem, and continued driving could cause further damage to the steering system.
