1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Find the diagnostic connector, which is usually located under the dashboard, near the steering column.
3. Connect a scan tool or code reader to the diagnostic connector.
4. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. The scan tool or code reader will display the check engine light codes.
If you do not have a scan tool or code reader, you can also try to retrieve the check engine light codes by using the following method:
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Press and hold the "TRIP" button for at least 10 seconds.
3. The check engine light codes will be displayed on the odometer.
Once you have retrieved the check engine light codes, you can look them up in a Mazda repair manual or online to find out what they mean.
