Tools and Materials Needed:
- Oil Filter: ACDelco PF48E or equivalent
- Oil Drain Pan
- Wrench
- Funnel
- New Oil: 5 quarts of 5W-30 Synthetic Oil
Instructions:
1. Make sure the engine is cool and turn off the engine.
2. Locate the oil filter on the top of the engine near the back. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.
3. Place the oil drain pan underneath the oil filter.
4. Use the wrench to loosen the oil filter cap by turning it counterclockwise.
5. Be careful as some oil may leak out as soon as the cap is loosened.
6. Once the cap is loose, remove it by hand and let the oil drain into the drain pan. It can take a few minutes to completely drain.
7. Remove the old oil filter gasket from the filter cap and discard it.
8. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help create a seal and prevent leaks.
9. Screw the new oil filter onto the oil filter cap by hand until it is snug. Do not overtighten.
10. Replace the oil drain pan under the engine oil drain plug.
11. Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug by turning it counterclockwise.
12. Allow the oil to drain completely into the drain pan. It can take a few minutes to completely drain.
13. Once the oil has completely drained, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely with a wrench.
14. Use the funnel to add the new oil to the engine. Add 5 quarts of 5W-30 Synthetic Oil.
15. Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
16. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
17. Turn off the engine and recheck the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
18. Replace the oil cap.
