Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely.
Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter on the 2004 Colorado is located under the vehicle, near the fuel tank.
Place a drip pan under the fuel filter to catch any spilled fuel.
Use a wrench to loosen the fuel filter lines. There are two fuel filter lines, one on the inlet side of the filter and one on the outlet side. Loosen the lines by turning them counterclockwise.
Allow the fuel to drain from the lines into the drip pan.
Remove the fuel filter from the vehicle. The fuel filter is held in place by two bolts. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts and remove the fuel filter.
Install the new fuel filter. Ensure that the new filter is properly seated in the filter bracket. Tighten the bolts to secure the filter in place.
Reattach the fuel filter lines. Tighten the lines by turning them clockwise until they are snug.
Start the engine and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, the fuel filter replacement is complete.
