How do you locate and replace the EGR valve then reset check engine light on a 2000 Ford Mustang?

Locating the EGR Valve

1. Turn the engine off and apply the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool down.

2. Open the hood of your Mustang.

3. Locate the EGR valve. It's usually located on the top of the engine, towards the back. It's a cylindrical-shaped component that has two metal tubes attached to it.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the EGR valve.

5. Remove the two bolts that hold the EGR valve in place.

6. Carefully lift the EGR valve out of the engine bay.

Replacing the EGR Valve

7. Inspect the old EGR valve for damage. If it's damaged, you will need to replace it.

8. Install the new EGR valve in the reverse order of removal.

9. Tighten the bolts that hold the EGR valve in place.

10. Reconnect the electrical connector to the EGR valve.

Resetting the Check Engine Light

11. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, but don't start the engine.

12. Press and hold the gas pedal for 10 seconds.

13. Release the gas pedal and turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.

14. Wait 10 seconds.

15. Start the engine. The check engine light should be off.

If the check engine light does not turn off after following these steps, you will need to take your Mustang to a mechanic to have it reset.
