1. Park the car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel that is on the side of the car with the axle you want to remove. Do not remove the lug nuts completely.

3. Raise the car with a floor jack or car ramps so that the tire is off the ground.

4. Remove the lug nuts and washer from the wheel.

5. Slide a flathead screwdriver between the rotor and caliper until the caliper retracts enough that the rotor can be removed. Alternatively, you can use a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back.

6. Pull the rotor off of the hub and out of the way.

7. Remove the two 17mm bolts that secure the caliper bracket to the hub.

8. Pry the caliper and bracket away from the hub with a pry bar or a large flat head screwdriver.

9. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut on the axle shaft. You may have to use a hammer and a punch to knock it out.

10. Use a lug wrench to loosen the castle nut. Do not remove the castle nut completely.

11. Install a pry bar between the transmission housing and the axle shaft and pry the axle shaft out of the transmission. Be careful not to damage the axle seal in the transmission.

12. Remove the hub nut from the axle shaft by turning it counterclockwise.

13. Pull the axle shaft out of the hub.
