Tools Needed
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- Flathead Screwdriver
- Pry Tool
1. Disconnect the battery. This is important to prevent any electrical damage while you are working. To disconnect the battery, simply use a wrench to loosen the negative terminal cable and disconnect it from the battery post.
2. Remove the steering wheel. To remove the steering wheel, you will need to use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws that hold the center cap in place. Once the screws are removed, carefully pry the center cap off the steering wheel. Next, use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the horn cover. Once the horn cover is removed, you will see a 21mm bolt that holds the steering wheel in place. Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the bolt. Finally, pull the steering wheel straight off of the steering column.
3. Remove the cluster bezel. To remove the cluster bezel, you will need to use a pry tool to gently pry up the bezel from the dash. Start at the bottom of the bezel and work your way around until it is completely removed.
4. Remove the instrument cluster. To remove the instrument cluster, you will need to use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws that hold the cluster in place. Once the screws are removed, carefully pull the cluster out of the dash.
5. Remove the dash. To remove the dash, you will need to remove the four screws that hold it in place. Once the screws are removed, carefully lift the dash up and out of the car.
That's it! You have now successfully removed the dash from your 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport.
