Instructions
1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely.
2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent the engine from starting while you are working on it.
3. Remove the air cleaner housing. This will give you access to the timing belt.
4. Remove the timing belt cover. This is usually held in place by a few bolts.
5. Locate the timing belt tensioner. This is usually a spring-loaded pulley that is located on the front of the engine.
6. Use a 3/8 inch ratchet and socket to loosen the tensioner pulley.
7. Slip the old timing belt off of the pulleys.
8. Make sure that the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and camshaft sprocket are aligned. You may have to turn the crankshaft pulley a few degrees to get them to align.
9. Slide the new timing belt over the pulleys.
10. Use a 3/8 inch ratchet and socket to tighten the tensioner pulley.
11. Reinstall the timing belt cover.
12. Reinstall the air cleaner housing.
13. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
15. Use a timing light to check the timing. The timing should be set to 0 degrees before top dead center (BTDC). If necessary, adjust the timing until it is correct.
