Steps:
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely.
2. Place the oil drain pan under the oil pan.
3. Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan. It is usually a 17mm bolt.
4. Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain into the oil drain pan.
5. Once the oil has drained completely, replace the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
6. Locate the oil pan bolts around the perimeter of the oil pan. There are usually 10-12 bolts.
7. Use the socket wrench set to loosen the oil pan bolts. Be careful not to drop the bolts into the oil pan.
8. Once all the bolts have been loosened, carefully pry the oil pan off the engine. Be careful not to spill any oil.
9. Clean the mating surface of the engine block and the oil pan with the scraper and rags.
10. Apply a thin layer of oil pan gasket sealant to the mating surface of the engine block.
11. Position the new oil pan gasket on the mating surface of the engine block.
12. Carefully lower the oil pan into place and reinstall the oil pan bolts. Tighten the bolts securely in a crisscross pattern.
13. Replace the oil filter.
14. Add new oil to the engine through the oil fill hole. Check the oil level with the dipstick and add more oil if necessary.
15. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks.
That is how you remove the oil pan from a 1998 Ford Windstar.
