How do you change a timing belt on Mazda 626 1999 6 cylinder?

Tools Needed:

* Set of wrenches

* Socket set with ratchet

* Torque wrench

* Pliers

* Screwdriver

* Timing belt

* Water pump

* Thermostat

* Coolant

* Oil filter wrench

* Oil filter

* Spark plug wrench

* Spark plugs

Instructions

1. Remove the accessory belt.

- Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt located on the front of the engine.

- Remove the accessory belt from the pulleys.

2. Remove the timing belt cover.

- Remove the bolts holding the timing belt cover in place.

- Remove the timing belt cover.

3. Set the engine to Top Dead Center (TDC).

- Align the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft gears.

4. Loosen the timing belt tensioner pulley bolt.

- Use a wrench to loosen the bolt located on the tensioner pulley.

5. Remove the timing belt.

- Slide the timing belt off the pulleys.

6. Remove the water pump.

- Remove the bolts holding the water pump in place.

- Remove the water pump.

7. Remove the thermostat.

- Remove the bolts holding the thermostat in place.

- Remove the thermostat.

8. Install the new timing belt.

- Slide the new timing belt onto the pulleys.

- Align the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and the camshaft gears.

- Tighten the timing belt tensioner pulley bolt to the specified torque.

9. Install the new water pump.

- Install a new gasket on the water pump.

- Bolt the water pump onto the engine.

- Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

10. Install the new thermostat.

- Install a new thermostat.

- Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

11. Reinstall the timing belt cover.

- Reinstall the timing belt cover. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

12. Reinstall the accessory belt.

- Replace the accessory belt on the pulleys.

- Tighten the tensioner pulley bolt to the specified torque.

13. Start the engine and check for proper operation.

- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

- Check for any leaks. Check the timing belt for proper tension and alignment.
