Safety Precautions:
1. Make sure the engine is off, and the emergency brake is engaged.
2. Disconnect the battery's negative terminal to avoid any electrical hazards.
Tools Needed:
- Socket wrench set
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Long pry bar or adjustable wrench
Steps to Remove the Tension Bolt:
1. Locate the Tension Bolt:
Identify the tension bolt located near the alternator. It's usually positioned above or below the alternator.
2. Release Tension from the Belt:
- Using the Phillips-head screwdriver, turn the tension bolt clockwise to loosen it slightly.
- Use a pry bar or adjustable wrench to pry the tensioner pulley away from the belt, creating some slack.
3. Remove Tension Bolt:
- Once the belt is loose enough, use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the tension bolt. Be careful not to drop the bolt into the engine compartment.
Belt Replacement:
4. Install New Alternator Belt:
- Route the new alternator belt around the pulleys, ensuring proper alignment with the grooves.
- Slide the belt over the tensioner pulley and apply tension by pushing down on the tensioner.
5. Tighten Tension Bolt:
- Once the belt is properly tensioned, tighten the tension bolt to secure the belt in place.
6. Reconnect Battery:
- Reconnect the battery's negative terminal.
7. Start the Engine:
- Start the engine and check if the alternator belt operates smoothly without any unusual noise or vibration.
