How to replace the powertrain control module?

Tools Needed:

- 10 mm socket

- Ratchet

- 1/4 inch drive ratchet

- 6 mm socket

- Phillips head screwdriver

- Flathead screwdriver

- Pliers

- Penetrating oil

- New Powertrain Control Module

Step-by-Step Guide:

1. Disconnect the Battery:

- Locate the negative terminal of your vehicles battery.

- Use a 10 mm socket and ratchet to loosen the bolt holding the negative battery cable.

- Pull the cable off of the battery terminal and out of the way.

2. Access the PCM:

- Locate the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). In most vehicles, the PCM is located under the hood near the firewall.

3. Disconnect the PCM Connectors:

- Use a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and 6 mm socket to loosen the bolts holding the PCM connectors in place.

4. Remove the PCM:

- Once the bolts are removed, you can pull the PCM connectors off the PCM.

- Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove any screws that may be holding the PCM in place.

5. Remove Old Gaskets:

- Using a flathead screwdriver, carefully pry the old PCM gaskets off of the transmission bell housing.

- Clean away the old gasket material using a rag and the penetrative oil.

6. Install New PCM Gaskets:

- Apply a small amount of RTV silicone sealant to the new PCM gaskets ( if they do not already have it).

- Install the new gaskets to the transmission bell housing.

7. Install New PCM:

- Install the new PCM by inserting the connectors into the PCM.

- Secure the PCM with the bolts that you removed earlier.

8. Reconnect the PCM Connectors:

- Carefully re-install the PCM connectors until they click into place.

9. Reconnect the Battery:

- Reinstall the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal.

10. Test the PCM:

- Start the vehicle and verify that the engine is running smoothly and that all of the electrical systems are functioning properly.
