1. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool completely if it has been running.
2. Open the hood of the vehicle and locate the battery.
3. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery by using a wrench to loosen the nut that secures the terminal to the battery post.
4. Wait for at least 1 minute before reconnecting the negative terminal.
5. Turn the key to the "ON" position without starting the engine.
6. Press and hold the gas pedal for at least 10 seconds.
7. Turn the key to the "OFF" position and release the gas pedal.
8. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
9. Start the engine and allow it to run for at least 2 minutes.
The Check Engine light should now be off. If the light is still on, you will need to have the vehicle diagnosed by a qualified mechanic.
