Instructions:
1. Park your Jeep Wrangler on level ground and engage the parking brake.
2. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down completely.
3. Locate the fuel tank access cover on the driver's side of the vehicle, below the rear passenger door.
4. Remove the fuel tank access cover by turning the cap counterclockwise.
5. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel tank by squeezing the release clip and pulling the line away from the tank.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector away from the pump.
7. Use a 5/16-inch socket to remove the four bolts holding the fuel pump and filter assembly to the fuel tank.
8. Gently lift the fuel pump and filter assembly out of the fuel tank.
9. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel pump by pressing the release tab and pulling the filter away from the pump.
10. Install a new fuel filter and reassemble the fuel pump and filter assembly.
11. Reinstall the fuel pump and filter assembly into the fuel tank and tighten the four bolts.
12. Reconnect the electrical connector to the fuel pump and the fuel line to the fuel tank.
13. Replace the fuel tank access cover and tighten the cap.
Tips
- Ensure that the parking brake is on and the engine is off and completely cool before beginning this repair.
- Be careful not to spill any fuel when disconnecting the fuel line and electrical connector.
- If necessary, use a drain pan to catch any spilled fuel.
- Use only approved fuel filters and do not overtighten any bolts or fittings.
