There is no fuel filter on petrol models of the VW Sharan. Instead, a fuel strainer is positioned just before the fuel pump, inside the fuel tank.
Diesel models equipped with a fuel water separator:
The fuel filter on diesel models is combined with a fuel water separator and is integrated into the housing for the electrical fuel pump. The entire unit is situated on the nearside of the cylinder head, just to the rear of the high pressure fuel pump.
Diesel models without a fuel water separator:
The fuel filter on diesel models is located below the floor of the vehicle, at the rear, on the nearside. It is situated beneath the carpet between the spare wheel well and the sill, and is usually visible if you lift the carpet flap from the back.
