Instructions

1. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Turn the engine off and allow it to cool down completely.

2. Locate the fuel pump. For a 1992 Lexus ES300, the fuel pump is located under the rear seat.

3. Use a jack and jack stands to raise the rear of the car high enough to crawl underneath. Be sure to place the jack stands under the car's frame, not the differential or suspension components.

4. Remove the fuel pump access panel. The access panel is located on the underside of the car, directly below the rear seat. You may need to use a flathead screwdriver or Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold it in place.

5. Disconnect the fuel line. Use a fuel line wrench to loosen the fuel line fitting at the fuel pump. Be careful not to spill any fuel.

6. Remove the fuel pump mounting bolts. There are two bolts holding the fuel pump in place. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the bolts and remove them.

7. Remove the old fuel pump. Once the bolts are removed, you can pull the old fuel pump out of the fuel tank. Be careful not to drop it into the tank or spill any fuel.

8. **Clean the fuel tank. Remove any dust, debris, or rust from the inside of the fuel tank around the fuel pump mounting bracket.

***9. Inspect the fuel pump grommet. If the fuel pump grommet is damaged or cracked, replace the fuel pump grommet.

***10. Install the new fuel pump. Place the new fuel pump gasket onto the end of the fuel pump mounting bracket. Then, insert the fuel pump into the fuel tank. Secure the fuel pump in place with the mounting bolts.

***11. Reconnect the fuel line. Use a fuel line wrench to tighten the fuel line fitting at the fuel pump.

***12. Replace the fuel pump access panel. Secure the access panel in place with the screws you removed earlier.

***13. Lower the car off the jack stands.

***14. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position. This will prime the fuel system.

***15. Start the car and check for any leaks. If there are no leaks, the fuel pump replacement is complete.
