The AWS designation for an E7016 Welding rod are as follows:

- E: This signifies that the electrode is suitable for arc welding.

- 70: This denotes the minimum tensile strength of the weld metal in thousands of pounds per square inch (KSI). In this instance, the tensile strength is 70 KSI.

- 1: The flux and covering of this electrode produce welds with a flat or slightly convex bead profile.
