Note: Before completing these steps, make sure your car is park in a safe location with the parking brake on and that the engine is turned off.
1. Locate the OBD-II port.
This is usually found under the dashboard on the driver's side. The OBD-II port is a rectangular-shaped connector with 16 pins.
2. Connect the OBD-II scanner to the port.
The OBD-II scanner is a device that can read and clear trouble codes from your car's computer. You can purchase an OBD-II scanner online or at an auto parts store.
3. Turn on the OBD-II scanner.
Once the scanner is connected, turn it on. The scanner will display a menu of options.
4. Select the "Read Codes" option.
The scanner will read the trouble codes from your car's computer and display them on the screen.
5. Select the "Clear Codes" option.
This will clear the trouble codes from your car's computer.
6. Turn off the OBD-II scanner.
Disconnect the OBD-II scanner from the port and turn off the scanner.
7. Start your car.
The check engine light should now be turned off.
