How do you remove oil pump from a 99 VW Passat 1.8T?

Tools

* 34mm socket

* 1/2-inch universal or drive extension bar

* Breaker bar

* Oil drain pan

* Oil filter wrench

* Funnel

* New oil filter

* New oil (5W-30 synthetic oil, 4.5 liters or 4.8 quarts)

Instructions:

1. Make sure the engine is cool.

2. Park your Passat on level ground.

3. Engage the parking brake.

4. Crawl underneath the front of the car and locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan.

5. Place the oil drain pan underneath the oil drain plug.

6. Loosen the oil drain plug with a 19mm wrench.

7. Allow the oil to drain completely.

8. Replace the oil drain plug.

9.Locate the oil filter housing on top of the engine, towards the front of the car.

10. Remove the oil filter using an oil filter wrench.

11.Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.

12.Screw the new oil filter on by hand until it is snug.

13.Do not overtighten the oil filter.

14.Locate the oil pump cover which is located on the front of the engine, towards the bottom.

15. Remove the oil pump cover using a 34mm socket.

16. Use the breaker bar to break loose the oil pump cover bolts if they are tight.

17. Remove the oil pump cover gasket and inspect it for damage.

18. Replace the oil pump cover gasket if it is damaged.

19. Apply a thin coat of sealant to the new oil pump cover gasket.

20. Install the new oil pump cover.

21. Tighten the oil pump cover bolts to 10 Nm.

22. Add new oil to the engine using a funnel.

23. Check the oil level using the dipstick.

24. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

25. Check underneath the car for any leaks.

26. Turn off the engine.
