- 19mm Socket & Wrench
Parts Needed:
- New Thermostat
- Thermostat Gasket
- Coolant
Steps to Change the Thermostat:
1. Drain the Coolant: Place a drain pan under the radiator and turn the petcock valve (usually located on the bottom of the radiator) counterclockwise to drain the coolant.
2. Remove the Fan Shroud: Remove the two 5mm Allen bolts holding the fan shroud in place and lift the shroud off.
3. Remove the Thermostat Housing: There are two 13mm bolts holding the thermostat housing, remove these bolts.
4. Remove the Old Thermostat: Take out the old thermostat and be careful not to lose the rubber gasket which seals the thermostat in place.
5. Install the New Thermostat: Place the new thermostat in the housing with the jiggle valve facing up and the gasket in place.
6. Reinstall the Thermostat Housing: Install the two 13mm bolts holding the thermostat housing and tighten them.
7. Reinstall the Fan Shroud: Place the fan shroud back in position and secure it with the two 5mm Allen bolts.
8. Refill the Coolant: Open the radiator petcock valve and add coolant until the radiator is full. Once full, close the petcock valve.
9. Run the Engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes until the thermostat opens. Check for any leaks.
10. Top Off Coolant: Check the coolant level in the radiator and top off if necessary.
