1. Turn off the engine and allow the vehicle to cool down.
2. Locate the fuse box. In the BMW 530 XI, there are two fuse boxes: the main fuse box located in the trunk and the auxiliary fuse box located in the passenger compartment. The fuse for the cigarette lighter is located in the main fuse box.
3. Open the fuse box cover.
4. Locate the fuse for the cigarette lighter. It should be labeled "Cigarette Lighter" or "Zigarettenanzünder" in German.
5. Check the fuse to see if it is blown. A blown fuse will have a melted or broken filament.
6. If the fuse is blown, remove it from the socket using a fuse puller.
7. Insert a new fuse of the same amperage rating as the old fuse.
8. Close the fuse box cover.
9. Turn on the engine to test the cigarette lighter.
10. If the cigarette lighter does not work after replacing the fuse, there may be another issue with the electrical system. Consult with a qualified mechanic or BMW service center for further diagnosis.
