Changing the Clutch in a 1988 Mazda RX-7 Convertible

Disconnect Battery

Disconnect battery negative terminal.

Remove Transmission

Remove transmission.

Remove Bell Housing

Remove the bell housing bolts and remove the bell housing.

Pull Back Clutch Fork Lever

Pull back the clutch fork lever and remove the cotter pin. Remove the clutch fork and release bearing.

Remove Release Bearing Guide

Remove the two bolts holding the release bearing guide and remove the guide.

Remove Clutch Disc

Remove the six clutch disc bolts and remove the clutch disc.

Remove Pressure Plate

Remove the six pressure plate bolts and remove the pressure plate.

Install New Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate

Install the new pressure plate and clutch disc.

Torqued Pressure Plate Bolts

Torque the pressure plate bolts to 20 ft-lbs.

Install Release Bearing Guide

Install the release bearing guide.

Install Release Bearing

Install the release bearing onto the clutch fork and insert the clutch fork and release bearing into the transmission.

Install Clutch Fork Lever and Cotter Pin

Install the clutch fork lever, cotter pin, and push back into place.

Install Transmission

Install the transmission.

Reconnect Battery Terminal

Reconnect the battery terminal.
