Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely before proceeding.
Step 2: Locate the radiator drain plug
The radiator drain plug is usually located at the bottom of the radiator. It is a small, plastic or metal plug with a slot or Phillips head screwdriver slot.
Step 3: Place a drain pan under the radiator
Place a drain pan or bucket under the radiator drain plug to catch the coolant that will drain out. Make sure the pan is large enough to hold all of the coolant.
Step 4: Open the radiator drain plug
Use a screwdriver to loosen the radiator drain plug and allow the coolant to drain out. Be careful not to spill any coolant on the ground.
Step 5: Close the radiator drain plug
Once all of the coolant has drained out, close the radiator drain plug. Tighten the plug securely to prevent any leaks.
Step 6: Flush the radiator
Turn on the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes. This will help to circulate the coolant through the radiator and remove any remaining debris.
Step 7: Drain the coolant again
Open the radiator drain plug and allow the coolant to drain out again. Be sure to catch the coolant in a drain pan.
Step 8: Add new coolant
Add new coolant to the radiator until it is full. The amount of coolant required will vary depending on the make and model of your car.
Step 9: Start the engine
Start the engine and allow it to run for a few minutes. This will help to circulate the new coolant through the radiator and system.
Step 10: Check the coolant level
Check the coolant level in the radiator and add more coolant if necessary.
Step 11: Drive your car
Drive your car for a few miles to ensure that the new coolant is circulating properly.
