* Driver's side dashboard: This is the most common location. Look for a metal plate riveted to the dashboard, usually near the lower corner.
* Driver's side doorjamb: Sometimes the VIN is stamped into the doorjamb itself.
* Vehicle identification plate: This is a separate plate, often found on the firewall (the metal partition between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment). It might list the VIN, along with other vehicle information.
* Title or registration: Your vehicle's title or registration documents will also list the VIN. This is useful if you can't find the VIN on the vehicle itself.
If you can't locate it easily, a strong light or a mirror might be helpful to examine hard-to-reach areas. Be aware that over time, the stamping might be faded or worn, making it difficult to read.
