On a 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L engine, the camshaft position sensor (CMP sensor) is located on the
passenger side (right side) of the engine, on the front of the cylinder head. It's usually near the distributor (if equipped) or very close to the front timing cover. It's a relatively small sensor, often with a single-wire connector.
