- Jack and jack stands
- Lug wrench
- Socket wrench set
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Pliers
- New shock absorbers
- Spring compressor
Instructions:
1. Park your car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels.
3. Jack up the car and place the jack stands underneath the car.
4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels.
5. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the dust cap on the top of the shock absorber.
6. Use a socket wrench to loosen the nut that holds the shock absorber in place.
7. Use a spring compressor to compress the shock absorber spring.
8. Remove the nut and bolt that hold the shock absorber in place.
9. Remove the old shock absorber and spring assembly from the car.
10. Install the new shock absorber and spring assembly into the car.
11. Tighten the nut and bolt that hold the shock absorber in place.
12. Release the spring compressor.
13. Replace the dust cap on the top of the shock absorber.
14. Replace the front wheels and tighten the lug nuts.
15. Lower the car down from the jack stands.
Tips:
* Make sure that the new shock absorbers are the correct size and type for your car.
* When installing the new shock absorbers, make sure that the spring is properly seated in the shock absorber.
* Tighten all of the nuts and bolts securely.
* Test the new shock absorbers by driving your car over some bumps and potholes.
