What does salvaged car mean?

A salvaged car is a vehicle that has been declared a total loss by an insurance company. This typically happens after the car has been involved in a significant accident, suffered extensive damage from another event (like a flood or fire), or has sustained damage beyond a certain percentage of its value to make repairs cost-effective.

Because the insurance company has deemed it a total loss, the title of the car is branded as "salvage," indicating that it has undergone major damage. This means it can't be legally driven on public roads until it's repaired and inspected, and receives a rebuilt title (in some jurisdictions). Even then, its value is significantly diminished.
