How do you open and close the back window of a 2000 Chevrolet venture mini-van?

The 2000 Chevrolet Venture's rear window doesn't open independently like a traditional car window. Instead, the entire rear hatch (the tailgate) lifts up to access the cargo area. There's no separate mechanism to only open the window portion.
