How do you know if your 10 bolt Chevy rear has c-clips?

You can't definitively know if your 10-bolt Chevy rear end has C-clips *just* by looking at the outside. A 10-bolt can use either C-clips or, more commonly in later years, bolts to retain the axles. You must inspect the axle shafts themselves.

To determine if your 10-bolt Chevy rear end uses C-clips, you need to:

1. Remove the axles: This is the only surefire way. You'll need to remove the axle retaining nuts (or bolts if it's not a C-clip axle) and then carefully remove the axles.

2. Inspect the axle ends: Once the axles are out, look at the very end of the axle shaft inside the differential housing. If you see a small, c-shaped clip retaining the axle, you have C-clips. If you see bolt holes, it uses axle retaining bolts.

Important Considerations:

* Safety: Working on a differential requires mechanical skills and proper tools. If you're not comfortable working on your vehicle's drivetrain, take it to a qualified mechanic. Improperly removing or installing axles can cause serious damage.

* Variations: While this is generally true for 10-bolt differentials, there can always be exceptions or unusual modifications.

In short, there's no way to know for sure without physically examining the axle shafts after removing them from the differential housing.
