* One in-tank: Located inside the fuel tank. This is not easily accessible and requires dropping the fuel tank to replace.
* One in-line: This is the one you're more likely to work on. Its location varies slightly depending on engine type (2.0L, 2.5L, or 2.8L V6), but it's generally found somewhere along the fuel line running from the tank towards the engine, often near the frame rail. You'll need to look under the vehicle near the tank and trace the fuel line. It's usually a cylindrical canister, possibly with a metal or plastic casing.
Because accessing the in-tank filter requires significant effort, most mechanics and DIYers only replace the inline filter. Always remember safety precautions when working with fuel systems – disconnect the battery's negative terminal, and work in a well-ventilated area away from open flames.
