On a 1940 Chevrolet truck, the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), as we understand it today, didn't exist in the same format. Instead, you'll find an identifying number stamped on the
frame. The exact location can vary slightly depending on the model and body style, but it's commonly found on the
driver's side frame rail, somewhere near the
firewall (the area between the engine compartment and the cab). You may need to clean the area to see the stamping clearly.
It's also a good idea to check other areas of the frame, as it might be stamped in more than one place, or the original stamping might be difficult to read.
