1. PARK SAFELY:
- Find a level, stable, and firm surface away from traffic and pedestrians.
- Engage the parking brake and turn off the engine.
- If possible, chock the wheels (place wedges or heavy objects) behind the tires diagonally opposite the corner you plan to lift. This provides additional stability and prevents your car from rolling.
2. LOCATE LIFTING POINTS:
- Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the specific lift point locations. Usually, there are designated areas marked or located near the wheels where the vehicle should be lifted safely.
3. JACK PLACEMENT:
- Position the jack under the designated lifting point. Make sure the jack is stable and securely seated.
- If you're using a scissor jack (usually found in the trunk), place the jack saddle against a solid part of the lifting point.
4. RAISING THE VEHICLE:
- Use the jack's handle to slowly lift the vehicle.
- Stop raising the vehicle once the flat tire is off the ground by a few inches (a few centimeters).
- NEVER raise it too high, as this can damage your vehicle or cause it to become unstable.
5. PLACE JACK STANDS (IF AVAILABLE):
- To ensure the vehicle remains securely raised, place jack stands under the vehicle at designated lift points.
- Jack stands provide additional support and prevent the car from falling in case the jack fails or slips.
- If you don't have jack stands, proceed with caution.
6. CHANGE TIRES/PERFORM MAINTENANCE:
- With the vehicle safely lifted, you can now change the flat tire or perform any necessary maintenance.
7. LOWERING THE VEHICLE:
- Once you've completed the work, use the jack to slowly lower the vehicle.
- Be cautious and ensure the jack and vehicle are stable.
8. FINAL CHECKS:
- Ensure your car is safely on the ground before moving or driving.
- Put away all jacking equipment properly.
- Test drive your vehicle briefly to ensure everything is functioning properly.
Remember, if you're not confident in jacking up your car or feel there are any safety concerns, it's best to have it done by a professional mechanic. Safety should always be the top priority when working on your vehicle.
