How do you drive in the rain?

Tips for Driving in the Rain:

1. Slow down and increase following distance. Stopping distances increase significantly on wet roads, especially when they are first wet and slippery. Allow extra time to come to a stop.

2. Turn on your headlights and windshield wipers. This will help you see and be seen by other drivers. Use low-beam headlights in foggy conditions.

3. Use your defroster and air conditioner. These will help clear fog and condensation from the inside of your windows.

4. Avoid sudden braking and swerving. These can cause you to skid.

5. Be aware of hydroplaning, where your tires ride up on a layer of water and the car loses contact with the road. This can happen even at relatively low speeds. If you feel your car hydroplaning, ease off the gas pedal and don't brake suddenly.

6. Brake in a straight line. Braking while cornering can cause your car to spin.

7. Pull over and wait out heavy downpours if necessary. If the weather is too severe, it is better to stay off the roads.

8. Be patient. Driving in the rain can be challenging, but it is important to stay calm and focused. Take your time and you will get through it safely.
