How do you get the taillight lens off on a 2001 Ford Escape?

To remove the taillight lens on a 2001 Ford Escape:

1. Open the Escape’s rear liftgate.

2. With a Phillips-head screwdriver, loosen and remove the two screws holding the taillight assembly to the Escape’s body panel.

3. With the screws removed, gently pull the taillight lens outward from the vehicle, starting from the outer corner of the lens.

4. Once the taillight lens is partially dislodged, slide your hand behind it and disconnect the electrical connector attached to the assembly by grasping and squeezing its plastic locking tab and pulling the connector from the assembly.

5. Once disconnected, the taillight assembly can be removed from the Escape.

6. To reinstall the taillight lens and assembly, simply follow the aforementioned steps in reverse order, making sure to reconnect the electrical connector and finger-tighten the two Phillips-head screws to hold the assembly in place.
