1. Gather your tools and materials.
- Replacement headlight assembly (check your owner's manual for the correct model)
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- 10mm socket wrench with ratchet
- Pliers
- Flashlight (if working in low light conditions)
2. Open the hood of your car.
Locate the hood release lever inside your car, usually under the dashboard on the driver's side. Pull the lever to release the hood, then lift the hood and prop it open with the support rod.
3. Locate the headlight assembly.
- Open the hood of your Camry and locate the headlights behind large plastic covers.
- Each headlight cover is secured with two screws, one on the top and one on the side. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove these two screws.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Once the cover is off, you will see the back of the headlight assembly.
- Locate the electrical connector that is plugged into the back of the headlight.
- Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight out of the headlight assembly.
5. Remove the old headlight assembly.
- Now you'll need to remove the headlight assembly from the car.
- There are three bolts holding it in place.
- Use the 10mm socket wrench and ratchet to loosen and remove these bolts.
- Once the bolts are removed, carefully lift the headlight assembly out of the car.
- Be careful not to drop the headlight assembly.
- Lay the old headlight assembly on a flat surface.
6. Install the new headlight assembly.
- Now you can install the replacement headlight assembly, follow these steps in reverse.
- Carefully lower the new headlight assembly into the car and align it with the mounting holes.
- Insert the three bolts and tighten them until snug with the 10mm socket wrench and ratchet.
- Do not overtighten the bolts.
7. Connect the electrical connector.
- Slide the electrical connector back into the headlight assembly until it clicks into place.
8. Replace the headlight cover.
- Replace the headlight cover and insert the two screws you removed earlier.
9. Close the hood.
You have now successfully replaced the headlight assembly on your 2002 Toyota Camry.
